Career Technical Education Month - FEBRUARY!

The state of Michigan anticipates more than 811,000 open jobs through the year 2024 - that’s according to the Talent and Economic Development Department of Michigan and Michigan Department of Education. This prediction, and others like it, are attracting the attention of Michigan leaders, including newly-elected governor Gretchen Whitmer. In response, Governor Whitmer recently declared February as Career and Technical Education Month in Michigan.

This effort aims to increase the state’s investment in talent - its most valuable resource - and provides students with an opportunity to learn the skills needed for in-demand careers.

“... Career and technical education is another viable path for our high school students ...” Governor Whitmer said. “As parents, educators and influencers, we need to encourage students to explore all career pathways and make sure they know these programs exist.”

At Pathway X Events, we are proud to be part of this effort. We create events that connect industries facing a talent gap to their future workforce - today’s teens. These events - such as the upcoming BUILD IT on March 5 - help students begin their CTE journey.

Schools across the state offer career-tech classes in a variety of fields, including finance, health sciences, information technology and advanced manufacturing. In fact, there are more than 2,000 of these programs with more than 200,000 students who graduate at a rate of 96 percent

“We need to continue expanding Career and Technical Education programs in Michigan schools to make sure our students have the real-world, hands-on experience they need to take advantage of rewarding career opportunities,” said Interim State Superintendent Sheila Alles.
